A mosaic is a form or image composed of small pieces of tile or stone. The art is an ancient one, with examples still existing from hundreds of years before Christ. In the Greek Hellenistic and Classical eras, the mosaic was primarily found in private homes, and often told a great deal about the family that lived there. Through the centuries, mosaics appear in all types of structures, both public, and private, and many are are found in parks or courtyards.
